birthday slash christmas needs

i know...needs is a strong word. how about wishes? although as my husband is wont to say.."you can wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which comes out fulfilled first..." charming AND smart!!! but i am turning 40 this saturday and feel this week of blog posts needs to honor the passing into crone. and this crone needs some things...
for starters i will take 7 yards of this lee jofa fabric for my new 85 dollars craigslist chair...

i would also like to wake up every morning to this:

this cookbook of healthier baked options:

as well as this one, cuz momma needs to lay off the meat for a while:

this book of walton ford paintings so that i can frame some around the hizzy:

this globe for fiona's room (i'm not totally selfish):

lookie it lights up!!!

and these...also for fiona...her birthday is also this month and i want to give a few of these as party favors and then keep the rest for decorations for the party.

how amazing are these colors together...lime, lavender, ochre, cream and faded ruby...

and i am really not opposed to this:

so if anyone out there wants to buy me this stuff that would be awesome.
thanks.
love,
40.

dark and sexy

kishani perera is all over blog world today. in fact i saw these rooms on coco and kelley the other day and had to change my unders:

those 2 top images are kishani's own. these next few are done by her pro photog, jean randazzo:

firstly the green walls with the black fittings and accessories and all that is almost too much for me to take without risk of my head exploding. i wonder...could i take a regular black shade and spray paint the inside of it gold? food for thought. and the bathroom is perfection.

also i know a few of you (lilah) are in love with kishani's work on molly simms place...well get a load of molly's new office....

that wallpaper is so good it makes me want to punch someone. no, you know what? the whole room is so good it makes me want to punch someone. girly, pretty, cluttered bliss..

rita rocks

as some of you may or may not know, i love rita konig. this is an apartment in NY she did for someone and i think it is exceptionally nice. don't you? points of interest: turquoise leather chairs, pink velvet pillows, shaggy rug, ebonized floors, shiny gold lamp in far right corner, and earthy potted plants..
you can read about the makeover here

thank you thanksgiving

this book has been read in this house every thanksgiving (and plenty of days in between) for the past 4 years, or since my daughter was 1 1/2 years old. it's about a little girl who goes to the local market to pick up some eggs, cream and a few other things for her family's thanksgiving meal. on the way she gives thanks to just about everything she sees; the trees, the clouds, the snow etc..and along the way she is followed by a duck and some rabbits. she buys carrots for the rabbits and a baguette for the duck with the extra money. she gets home to a round of applause and proceeds to make whip cream for the pies. it's a simple story of thanks told in a way that is sans pilgrims and indians. it's a family favorite. i am very thankful this year. here are just a few things i am thankful for:

these bitches:
these snatches:

and these hookers:

this gorgeous beast of a teddy bear:

these babies:
especially this one; i am no one without her:
my nephew..a sweet little boy with the weight of the world on his shoulders:

and these knuckleheads:

all of you. i am thankful.

craigslist...you've outdone yourself

i know i posted this image the other day...but i noticed something i hadn't before when i looked at this image today when it was posted by sketch 42...and that would be that rams head coffee table...
found on craigslist for 200 bucks...going to try to talk him down to 100 but will pay 150.

craigslist score needs some fabric love

in case no one believed me yesterday or in earlier posts when i said my house was as dark as the underbelly of a nutsack, specifically this room...here is proof. this is middle of the day and it doesn't change as the sun moves it's way around the earth. this is largely due to the huge covered porch we have. anyway...this is about my chair...my 85 dollar mid century-ish craigslist score. i actually bought it from a very cool mid century dealer here in atlanta. i walked into his immaculate time capsule of a house and was very excited when he left to go to the basement to bring up my chair so i could walk around and look at all of his beautiful furnishings without looking like a furniture stalker. kinda stupid when he actually could have been going in the basement to put on his skin suit a la this guy. anyway..he brought it up and it was really in very good shape and super comfy. i call that a score. i intend to paint the wood frame something glossy, probably black. but i have no idea where to find affordable, sexy fabric. i want something graphic, not thinking floral and no imperial trellis please (beautiful though it is)...maybe black and white? not too traditional and not too modern. somewhere in the middle. any ideas?

any ideas? lovely readers???

lykke li

start to finish please.

dookie

we are all hearing the talk about gray being the new brown. and i do love gray. i have a gray entry/keeping room and it's yummy, sort of. i think you need a lot of natural light to pull gray off or you have the wrong gray for the room. my room suffers this way.
but now gray is all up in my face!! it's everywhere. in addition to the pictures in the magazines and on the blogs parading their gray rooms before my eyes...i am now HEARING it. this makes me want to run away. to brown-town. but not yesterday's brown. it would be if gray and brown made sweet love and had a gray and brown baby and named it b'ray. i know what you're saying...ummm...hey dumbass...that's called taupe. but noooo...MY b'ray is not taupe. she is richer and earthier. today's browns are just better. chocolate...mixed with plum and fig. or tea leaves and moss..
here are some yummy browns for you to consider:
1. benjamin moore nite horizon
2. farrow and ball etruscan red
3. benjamin moore appalachian brown
4. pratt and lambert autumn dusk
5. farrow and ball london stone
6. benjamin moore middlebury brown
7. benjamin moore tudor brown
8. farrow and ball buff
9. benjamin moore chocolate truffle
10. martha stewart for valspar fig
11. benjamin moore brown horse
12. benjamin moore mink
i love the b. moore brown horse.
here are some brown rooms for you to enjoy:

where do you stand with the new browns? once a turd always a turd? or likes it?

new moon

i loved it. loved it loved it. now i am USUALLY quite the stickler when it comes to books turned into movies and how far one strays from the other but in this case i didn't care if it did because the book was torture on my soul. so more of edward is ok with me.
let's discuss it.

is your man "disturbed" by your robsession?

i woke up to an email from my husband that said this:

"I think he’s a pretty good looking guy – if you get past that distinctive inbred look. When I used to do film shoots in Cabbagetown I’d see them (the “Cabbage heads”, products of inbreeding from the old mill town) with their eyes all far apart and flattened out facial features – all semi retarded...

I Googled ‘inbred look’ and his brother was the first return:"

so...are any of you having similar emails? i know alison from MLHP is. her husband made her listen to a scathing review of new moon.

your new favorite dining room

and let me just say polywhore is cool and all but it is very difficult to fit in details and finishing touches. but until i can learn some awesome program polysmall will have to do. but i can see e-decorating in my future. your future(s) too.

you asked...

so much love for the kinglsey carver chair.

modern thanksgiving

love this table setting. notice how wonderful the white wine is and how not wonderful red wine would have been? via the studio blog

also i am cooking up a thanksgiving table/dining area of my own. i would start with this wall color:

this table:

a few of these chairs:

and some of these sconces:

there is much more to acquire so more to come. you like?

a nice place to sit and some midweek tiny cute

this room beckons me to sit and discuss things with friends. nothing too serious though. maybe we will talk about all of my travel finds displayed around the room. where i say things like, "i never met a tribal sculpture i didn't like..hahaaaa haaaaa aaahhh".

and have you ever?
look at those velvety soft heads.

2 days, 1 if you are going to the midnight showing..

tell me your plans. who are you going with? a gaggle of girls on opening night? by yourself in a dark theatre on sunday morning? will you be wearing jeans with deep pockets like me?

i don't have a scanner

and it's as dark as the underbelly of a nutsack in my house (rain) but i wanted to share something with youz..
the december issue of food network magazine features nigella's home kitchen. i took some photos:
she is not a minimalist (thank god). she has 4 fridges and a whole lotta crap! i LOVE IT!
they also do a "get her look" page. which is so very lomino i can't even stand it (domino+lonny=lomino).

go get it hookers! i am doing her fairy lights in a jar thing for the holidays. yep.

pretty

that bathroom looks retreat-ish. like a place to hide out in and bathe away the bullshit. i would throw an old-timey radio on that vanity and listen to something sad like billie holiday and smoke cigarettes.

nice library. love all the mismatched chairs and open door...it smells good in here, like books and coastal cypress.

i love when a mirror reflects pretty. and cloches are always a nice addition to your decor.

i am unsure of the floor...are those gray rugs thrown down or is that something inlaid in the wood? either way it's nice and so is that tribal looking rug..everything about this space is delightful. open plan at it's best.

for me it's all about that tub and those goddamn moroccan inspired towels.

i am a sucker for a room that is ill defined. this is the room that as a little girl i would steal away to to dance or pretend it was my very own office or lab or hospital or general private quarters or plan my date with jason bateman..

cozy.

who doesn't love a big fucking anchor? this room is special.

all of this gorgeousness comes from sarah spongberg.

your new favorite show

tonight on comedy central a very VERY funny and cool show airs that i feel you must watch. it's called free radio. free radio started out a few years ago on vh1 and ran for 2 seasons. unfortunately it just wasn't a great fit. now, comedy central has picked it up and is running the second season again which is great news because YOU get to GIVE it a second chance. it airs after the colbert report at MIDNIGHT tonight and every monday night. tivo it if you must, but you really seriously need to watch. it's funny. it's the story of a dumbass (lance krall) who fills in for the head dj of a popular morning show after he rather suddenly quits. lance ends up being so bad and rude to the celebrity guests that he actually gets a fan base tuning in every week just to see what kinds of things he will say to them, the show is then dubbed 'moron in the morning'. here's a clip:

jon douchelin

i don't think i am alone in my disgust for this guy. quite frankly when i watched this show before all the press on these 2 i thought he was kind of retarded. seriously, i really thought he might be mildly retarded. i mean he was kind of...slow? and i was always like awww...kate why you gotta be so mean to your retarded husband? now i see i was doing a great disservice to retarded people.
he is merely a douche of the highest power. he is lord douche. gandouche. the eye of saurdouche.
king theodouche, the voldoucheri...
anyway...more grand douchery here.

my new boss

how's that for fucking crazeballs?? allow me to refresh your memory....

remember the designtard series? remember when you saw dantard making goo goo eyes at the hot gay dude who came it to critique the madness of 3 recliners in a nursery?
so the hot gay dude is john gidding, an architect and designer and overall renaissance gay. well he contacted me several months ago and asked me if i wanted to write his blog for his new website. i accepted and we met yesterday and went over the details. first of all let me just say he is major eye candy. i nearly passed out due to the glare coming off his teeth. he is super tall like 5'15 or some shit. and tan. and...funny and nice and cool and...(gulp) talented.. he showed me some of his furniture designs which are very cool and modern and frank gehry-ish.
so..the website itself is dedicated in part to his new hgtv show airing in the spring called curb appeal the block in which he fixes up the facade of not just one house but a whole block. i watched a sneak peak yesterday and i have to say as far as hgtv shows go this one had a reality sensibility (i.e. unscripted, free form etc..) unlike some of the other cheese fest's that hgtv offers. john is warm, funny and a little nerdy on camera which always wins me over. i can't stand when people take themselves too seriously, it's such a turn off. it makes you judge their shit more harshly, no? anyhoo....there were promises of events i would attend, photograph and blog about as well as a few silly things i could post (there was talk of the penis chandy ) and coming to the set of curb appeal to perhaps blog about that. so overall i am pretty excited to actually be paid for writing! i mean i never ever ever EVER predicted that when i started MFAMB, and to be paid for something that i actually enjoy! plus to be called by the guy i was kinda razzing says something about the guy doesn't it? as i said earlier..it's CRAZEBALLS!!!!

so from my perspective as long as you write it all from your heart and use your voice and not a voice you think people want to hear and try not to bore the piss out of people you will get a job with a hot gay dude!

the hague

well, was it worth the wait? srsly. it was not such a hard job as it was a time consuming one. a downside is i have been having major headaches since i painted it. but, i learned a lot. which is probably the most important bit here. i thought several times about how much faster this would be if i had a spray gun, but i started to really like the little imperfections that come with hand application. and i honestly can't wait to get started on a few other pieces i have around here. let's talk about the hardware for second, it cleaned up nicely but i am not sure i love it. i think i want to go a little more modern...my mom and i are going to look at an antiques hardware store at some point in the near future so these will have to do for now. i know i def want brass though..
now i would have loved to have styled it all up for you, but that will take me another several weeks i'm sure. i hope you like it but could really give two shits if you don't. big hugs.

update

just wanted to let you all know that the buffet is done. done i tell you and beautiful in it's hague blue glory. i stopped at anthro today to pick up a piece of hardware to see if it would work, it did not. too small. theirs are all too small. or my buffet is too big. it is. it's old. so i took the old knobs and pulls and polished them up in a special sauce (which is 1 tsp of salt, 1 cup of vinegar mixed together, then add enough flour to make a paste; apply to hardware and let sit for as long as is needed. in my case overnight. that shit was tarn-ISHED!) anyway...they are golden and glorious.
pics to come tomorrow...in the meantime go grab a bucket of cokes, sit down with some gentleman suitors, see where that goes and then meet me back here tomorrow.

katy gromball

the very sweet and talented katy gromball contacted me yesterday about showing her work. as most of you know blogging about pretty things can illicit all kinds of people trying to showcase their goods on your blog, some of it not so pretty or just not your cup of tea. but when katy contacted me i took one look and was smitten. she uses japanese paper and old french children's books and magazines...they are delightful.

she has quite a bit more at her blog and her etsy store.

it's that time of year- time to offend the ones you love

who doesn't have a numb skull in their life just waiting to be told so? well now you can.

back in the day this would have been perfect for me:

or this one:

have a gay in your life? i do! merry christmas annie! look-it even looks like a long vagina.

perhaps a co-worker for this one? most of us know someone with a substandard IQ who thinks they're smart. since there wasn't a 'douchebag' plate 'twit' will get the message across nicely:

have a family member or friend into drugs? give them these with a card that says.."i'm onto you."

or for your pothead friend? cooler still if she rolls a joint on it. (i'm talkin to you marci)

there's a lot more at trixie delicious's etsy store.

expedit questions..

fiona needs shelves. lots of them, because she has over 300 books, 4 huge baskets of big, ugly plastic toys, and 3 huge baskets full of stuffed animals, 3 baskets of activity books and coloring books, 3 boxes of crayons and markers and her closet is full of all the little shit that is too small for shelves that i would like to just throw away but i know that if i do she will request it and then cry b/c mommy threw it away. that's called murphy's law i believe? anyway..expedit...what say you? affordable-yes! good looking- yes! sturdy-?? have any of you used expedit? do you like? tell me your story. or tell me what you like the bestest. just please don't tell me how your kid died trying to climb them. that won't do me at all.

polywhore

at least that's what i feel like after spending pretty much the entire day putting this room together on polyvore. this should have taken maybe 30 minutes? well, it didn't. but what else are you gonna do when you are sick as balls and computer retarded? anyway..i said i was going to fashion a room out of that fuzzy (some might say fugly) pink sofa. well, i did. an entry, specifically. i am a little disappointed at how small it is..so if you want the big effect plus details go here.

Saturday, November 7, 2009

i know...

but i actually quite like it. it looks VERY soft and like it might smell like roses. it could work somewhere. as soon as i figure out how to make a moodboard i will fashion a stunning room around this soft, pink sofa. just you wait....oh! anyone know how to do a moodboard on the ol PC?

i think her look says it all...

as in "fuck you bitches ha ha haaaaaaaaaa!!!!!"

while seeing my boyfriend with her makes me want to inject my veins with a super dose of h1n1, i admit that she looks amazingly beautiful.
it's getting closer hookers!!! 2 weeks!!

i'm throwin a wrench in it!

usually everyone's all "oooh shiny shiny!!!" (myself included) but let's consider matte black...

it's damn sexy!

garnet hill item 1

for some reason i get excited when the garnet hill catalog arrives. not sure why, it's usually a bunch of mom clothes and ugly sheets or cute stuff i can't afford (i'm talkin to you eileen fisher bedding), but i do. though i was somewhat pleasantly surprised with the latest fall/winter catalog. particularly this coat. it looks warm. but then i looked again....

and thought she looked a little like one of these:

what do you think? cute? or grub worm?

great find alert!!

if you live in atlanta you could have this retro pyramid table for 150 dollars...

or you could have this jayson h & g george cocktail table for 2,595 dollars....

if i had 150 dollars i would totally buy it. but i don't, so you buy it.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

sneak peak!!!

the drawers just got their first coat of farrow and ball's hague blue. and let me tell you this paint is worth every extra penny. it is so glossy and delicious (oil based high gloss) and it paints so smoothly. it is reading a tad lighter in pictures than in person. but it's GORGEOUS!
as soon as it dries (which is taking a COON'S AGE) i will sand that shit down and apply the second coat of love.
does anyone think the sanding between coats is necessary or should i just say fuck it and apply another coat once this one is dry??

hump day

16 days and counting...

shiny metal lamps are good

every time i see a shiny lamp i jizz a little. they add so much to a room- warmth, glamour, shimmer.

gold:

silver:

this is overkill to me. i don't need that much shimmer in one room. i love the lamp but part of the charm and wonder of a shiny lamp is the contrast it adds to the room, there is no contrast here:

i LOVE these lamps. they combine my love of shiny gold and matte black:

brass:

love the fixtures in here. kelly loves to use brass/gold with muted pinks and purples:

lets talk about this room a little. notice how small this room appears to be. but notice the bold use of color and pattern. i love that. what i don't love though, is that damn wallpaper. i love the colors but to me it looks like a dentist's waiting room circa 1973. it just looks dated. i don't necessarily HATE it, i just don't love it. and i think the majority of kelly wearstler's stuff falls into this category. just sayin'. still...shiny lamps kick ASS!

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

goddamn that's a great idea!

gay ass sweater

no one and i do mean NO ONE can do a fisherman's sweater quite like my boyfriend.
thanks alison. if you want to see more visit MLHP.

delightful

monday color combo

hello monday!!!! i hope you all had a safe halloween free of razor blades in your laffy taffy or poison in your milky way's. we here at the anderson household started a new tradition called the switch witch. where the little person in our house trades up her candy for a toy of her choice delivered santa style by the switch witch. i let her pick out 3 pieces of candy of her choice from her trick or treat bag and the rest was for the switch witch to take up to her tree house where she would stuff herself with all the candy until her teeth fell out. unfortunately i was too sick to go trick or treating so i was here manning the door. trick or treating in the 'hood is quite different than trick or treating in white-y town. let's just say the WHOLE family gets in on it. mom's, dad's, aunties, uncles, infants...all have their kroger bags open and waiting for candy. no costumes either. i can't decide whether this is highly annoying or completely awesome. either way halloween is an event in my neighborhood.

so now that the oranges and blacks of halloween are behind us let us make way for the rich browns and golds (and sometimes yellows-which is really just gold without the shiny) of deep autumn. like hazelnut chocolate wrapped in gold paper, luxurious and comforting.

halloweener

well farts. i had a great big surprise planned for you but this is all i could muster yesterday...
i did go see paranormal activity. i was enjoying it, although it wasn't scary to me, suspenseful and well made but not particularly frightening. anyway we left half way thru b/c i was feeling very achy, dizzy and just over all really crappy. a part of me wanted to tell the other audience members, "hey...look, i'm not a pussy i just think i might have H1N1 so in order to protect all of you i think i should go home and rest...so...there....". but i didn't i just left with my head held high and a giant middle finger held high to the gods of timing. i came home and crawled into bed for 2 hours. i got up to make dinner (not an easy task) and to get the little girl ready for tricks or treats....behold my little vampiress...

it rained balls here all day yesterday so there was no good light even outside....
as for my little surprise for all of you, i think i can still pull it off as a thanksgiving surprise so stay tuned for that...

in other news my dad emailed me this morning about the tables he is going to make for me..
saying there would be a slight delay. when i asked him what happened this was his reply:
"i had an argument with my table saw. saw won."
