effortless pretty

if you're like me the rooms that inspire you are the ones that look doable, effortless, pretty and comfortable. while i can appreciate and drool over the rooms of mary mcdonald, katie ridder and company, they are so often too decorated for me. i prefer a more relaxed, clean style. for now. wink.

all of these interiors are from jan eleni. she can rock a kids room too...

coolest boy's room ever??! yes.

i absolutely adore this room..

she can also take your kids art work and make something like this for you:
this is brilliant as fiona is just now 5 and i have already accumulated STACKS of her artwork. i cannot throw them away! i think my heart would crumble into dust if i did. so i am going to look into this further.

  5. That's IT - I'm def doing another cowhide or zebra in the nursery - redundancy in my home be damned!
I also LOVE that idea of making a montage of a child's art - I'd been thinking about having some of Avery's first artworks blown up and converted to canvas, so that's an option for ya, too!

  6. I love that circle wall hanging in photo 3. I'd like to take it right off their wall and put it right on mine!

  7. A little unrelated, however, sure to make Johnnie Boy's balls tingle:

HGTV sure knows how to pick 'em...

  9. Siiiiiiiiiigh. Love these. The fireplace in the first photo is so beautiful and so beautifully and effortlessly styled. Saving that one. And then that last space with the books and the killer mirror slays me in its nonchalant perfection. The floors in all of these are so damn great. As for the kiddo rooms, you are so right on about the boy's room. It is excellent. Still kid friendly, but with an edge. It really is so difficult to find good inspiration for boy spaces if you are not into the sport theme or character theme shit. I'm not. This one is going into the files when I rework my older boys' room. Lightening mural here I come.

  10. can I please have the floors in that first room-- the wide light wood planks take me to my happy place.

  12. i love what she's done with kids' artwork! my mom has saved all of our artwork and begun to hang it around our house which i think looks surprisingly good considering the fearless color use of young artists. that nursery is cute but i bet fiona's artwork is good enough for the rest of the house too!

  13. I say the less clutter the better. Who needs all of that hokie home decor from HomeGoods shit? A few pieces that are special and significant are so much more appealing to ME.

  14. gayhooker- is wish hgtv would get a little more scandalous in their decor.

anita, the artwork comes from her site. just click on "collages" at the top.

  15. Holly says:

Yes! Relaxed, clean, uncluttered! Great pics, all. (See? We CAN agree.)

Well, the photo of the overloaded bookshelf doesn't really evoke 'uncluttered', but who doesn't love a book filled nook? Especially one with a table for sipping and noshing as we read.

Love all these images...and agree...although I admire those magnificent rooms...I prefer something alot simpler for my own home.
Those little girls rooms are super cute..makes me all clucky for another bubs....doing up my little Jacqs room at the moment...even though he is only 16 months..he is SUCH A BOY and so I wanted to turn his room into something a little funkier and fun....hoping it will come together ok :/

  19. Love these. Just posted today about my current obsession with white walls. Right now, my favorite rooms all have white walls and slightly darker trim. I think I scared my husband when I told him I wanted to paint again...
