this morning i saw these
dorothy draper-esque chest of drawers at pieces, inc. for 3800 dollars.

that's a hell of a lot of money when you could pretty easily rip it off with a
malm...

or a
kullen (you could call it a cullen, i wouldn't mind)...

some of this...

a little of this....
throw on some of
these and BAM!

you now have some dorothy draper inspired chests and you didn't have to sell your soul to the devil.
Have you done this yet? I'd love to see what the DIY one looks like because I love the original but dont want to sell my soul to the devil to get it :)
ReplyDeleteLove it great idea! Totally do able. I just used the malm and kullen in a bedroom that I did and loved them. Great quality for the price. I'm just not sure how paint would stick to them.
ReplyDeleteCould you sand them first? I feel like they have laminate on mdf and not sure how that would take to paint.
Great idea though and worth a test.
There are ALWAYS knockoffs of Dorothy Draper "Espana Collection" dressers like those around. Watch on eBay. At most, you should pay a few hundred each, unless the seller can show you they are the real thing, signed.
ReplyDeletePieces has the WORST prices. It's a store for people who know nothing about vintage or antique furniture. Steer clear. Use them only for research.
There was a draper chest on my local craigslist for $100 the other week and I'm kicking myself for not snagging it.
ReplyDeleteI found a diy project on a malm that was amazing.
I'll need to work one in to one of my designs soon.
Thank you for the comments! I am definitely going with tin oiseau, which will be opening this week! So, I pretty much love your blog - it reads a lot like the conversations I have in my head. With myself. Yeah...not crazy.
ReplyDeletenowwww i know where you're going with the chest idea that you sent me! ummmm not that good with paint or tape at that...but damn they would look good if i were. i still don't know what i am going to do...
