ed ross fucking killed it!!!!

heads up design whores...its a WINDOW DISPLAY! as in it needs to grab you like the powers of grayskull when you walk by and make you go...holywowballs!!! of all 3 entries eddie ross is the ONLY one of them that did that....
so many blog posts talking about it, but no one is really high fiving ed like they should be. look no one loves eddie ross as much as eddie ross including his back door man, jaithan. but he is a fucking force of design savvy and skills. he should be loving himself big time for this one. elle decor should throw a little more ed into their magazine. look at it......!!

look at that tray...if u keep up with ed you know that he thrifted it and then polished that shit up. i'll bet the other contestards grabbed from the bloomingdale's display window prop room and called it a day.
i think eddie put the most heart and soul into his display. well done ed. you deserve the win.

the next entry is by maxwell gillingham ryan for apartment therapy....i don't hate this one...

the wallpaper is pretty and it is generally a good room but it doesn't pop like ed's..

for starters there's too much fucking brown in my face...i would have liked to have seen a little more cool to all that warm.

and it kinda looks like an anthropologie catalog shoot set, which is great for a catalog shoot set not for a window display methinks. maybe in person it's better.

the last entry is eileen joyce for bloomingdale's...prob the most boring hotel uninspired room in the bunch...

it's like the executive suite at the wilderness lodge in disneyworld...

if you want to vote for ed go here..

I agree, the Bloomingdale's room is boring. It looks like the women's lounge in Bloomingdales. Make me want to take a break from shopping, breast feed my baby and change it's poopy diaper in there. Yawn.

Eddie Ross rocked though, how did he not win that show?

I so saw this room displayed all over the blogs this week, that I just stayed away from it. I SOOOO glad, though, that you did not!

Did he REALLY splatter-paint that wall, though?

As usual you cut to the chase!
I love me some Eddie.
But I hate the way Apartment Therapy runs these bloated contests.

"Ed and my back door man" that is just priceless. The room is stinkin' hot, no doubt about it and Eddie is damn talented, no doubt about that either, but the fact that he has a sense of humor that can match wits with MFAMB, now that deserves a gold star.

Come on! It's clear he doesn't have children. If he did he wouldn't be displaying that china collection along the bottom shelves of that bookcase.
Also, the speckled walls, the masses of patterns, it's just trying way too hard. I think he needs to get his editing eye out and scale it back. Particularly the Liberace-esque bust.

I voted for the A.T. designed room.
TITLE: The Writer's Romantic Supper
DESIGNED FOR: Amor
I'm good with the brown as it's offset with lots of color punches. It also looks exactly as it's described. I'd love to curl up in this room with my love.

The last one? YAWN- you're so right about it being executive suite at the wilderness lodge in Disney World. Nuff said.

I looooove window displays! You're right he's totally the bomb-shizzle! I do window displays as well but in the confines of my job, they're the best with what I can work with. I would love the freedom to do things like this!

Not my style at all, it looks like he threw a shopping cart in a room, just way too much "stuff" I am actually a fan of the third room, but I do like clean and minimal, but with a bit of warmth, so that's my vote.

Oh, please.

It's Hollywood Regency meets 60's Pop Art, with a little junk shop redux thrown in.

What's with the spattered walls? Looks like a truckload of BIC Stiks blew up.

Turquoise, pink, red, blue, orange, white, black, silver, gold. . . what a frikkin' hodgepodge of crap that doesn't go together. So, what? Bad taste is something to be celebrated now? It's come to this in the design world?

Jesus. Mary. And Joseph.

Eddie shopped at Goodwill. And bought 4 decades of detritus culled from the decluttering of other people's lives.

Yuk.

But, hey, at least it ain't black, white, and burlap. Or more shabby than chic. It's not faux French with a nod to Pottery Barn.

Well, see. I did find something refreshingly delightful about that fright of a room.

I want so badly to hate Eddie. But, his comment above changed my mind. He is a mega-talent.

{ By the way, my word verification was "haggi." }

while i agree that there is a lot of stuff in there, i DISagree that that is a bad thing.

and holly...
hollywood regency + 60's pop art + junk shop redux = hello gorgeous.

bic sticks- great idea!!!!

shopping at goodwill is awesome. my great aunt marge dropped a saarinen tulip table at the nebraska flea in 1975, now some lucky mother fucker is in possession of that "detritus".

it absolutely drives me batty when people (TownhouseLady) say "It's clear he doesn't have children. If he did he wouldn't be displaying that china collection along the bottom shelves of that bookcase." or things to the like regarding decorating and children. I have 5 kids and NEVER ONCE altered my decorating or placement of things based on that fact. They were taught to respect things, and they did. And there is not one thing or one room that they are not allowed to touch or use.

MFAMB said...

i hear ya anon 4:42 PM.
why can't the mom be a mom to teenagers as well?

Holly replied:

Touche!

Nothing wrong with Goodwill. I just don't want the entire store - - all at the same time - - to be my living room. I myself am a junk shop devotee. But I edit. Eddie, not so much.

And, I kinda like a decided-upon color scheme. It seems just a bit schizophrenic to be unable to decide on a color palette. This is the entire color wheel.

I think what I REALLY hate is the orange/white graphic pop art over the sofa . . . on the blue spattered walls. . . above the fuschia throw and the red pillows. LSD anyone? That's what those Hollywood stars of yesteryear must have seen when they had their pill popping parties in their HR decorated pads.

It does actually have more 'personality' than much of what I've seen over the last year in design and on blogs. I'm more than a little bored with the generic HGTV/Ballard Designs/Crate & Barrel aesthetic. So I'll give him props for that. And he did USE color, which has been woefully missing for too many years now.

As for the other rooms, they are, respectively, "meh" and "why?"

jennifer said...

i think it's great! remember, folks, it's a window display NOT someone's crappy townhouse. It's supposed to grab your attention and make you STOP and LOOK, which it sure does. the others do not.

Hey Anon at 4:42 (why anon? What a cop out):

"it absolutely drives me batty when people (TownhouseLady) says 'It's clear he doesn't have children'... I have 5 kids and NEVER ONCE altered my decorating or placement of things based on that fact. They were taught to respect things, and they did."

Well aren't you just fantabulously incredible to have raised such perfect angels.

Gimme a break.

Regardless of a child's respect level for things they are still children. They trip, fall, have accidents and the like. I was raised in a household with precious antique items and let me tell you my mom was still smart enough to have them relegated to higher shelves while keeping collections of design books on the lower ones. It's just common sense. It's not a reflection of the kids as being misbehaved or disrespectful.

Then again, you're lucky, your children are so respectful why don't go ahead and decorate the changing table in the nursery with your best Limoges collection and line the highchair in a nice Schumacher, I'm sure they wouldn't dare disrespect it by spilling.

We never wanted her to have to put her drink down because then we new we would be in trouble! (That was a joke she do not drink well sometimes who wouldn't if you had 4 boys)! and if this woman things got broken she got the shit at a flea market. it's just suff thinks can be replaced!

PS this is the first blog that i have been able to curse on and I feel so FREE!

Holly says to Eddie:

Eddie, I have seen quite a lot of your stuff that I DO like. Really. I'm not just sayin' it, 'cause you're here and hanging out.

I know my opinion means diddly to you, and that's quite all right. That's as it should be. Who am I to tell you? Exactly.

I'm a gal with an Arts and Crafts fetish, so this design is simply way too busy for me. Others clearly love it, though. I will say that it does have a sense of 'whimsy', and it's certainly cheerful. So,I CAN find nice things to say about it . . .

MFAMB said...

eddie...come back anytime to let off foul mouthed steam, you are in good company. i'm proud to have you.

anon...arts and crafts fetish???!!! well now it all makes sense! no wonder turquoise, pink, red, blue, orange, white, black, silver, gold, made your eyes throw up!! whew! and i thought you were just retarded. now i see it was just bad taste. (i kid) to each his own as they say. although when i think arts and crafts i think of those awful mission oak desks with goldenrod paint on the walls and interior woodwork everywhere with burgundy accents, stained glass, and iron railings in the shape of a rustic vine. am i wrong? i am asking. send me an image of your arts and crafts.

Well it's definately more interesting than the other entries...and it makes me want to see more. I would walk into a store like that. Would I buy the entire room and put it in my house? No...but I don't think that was truly the idea...ok maybe it was....but whatever. I like it for it's zam/zip/pow. I don't like it for all of the clutter...I have pets...and those I cannot teach respect no matter how hard I try.

Townhouse Lady,

Oh. My.

First off, NOBODY said ANYTHING about my kids being "perfect angels" because lord knows-they're not! What I DID SAY is they were taught to respect things. Cheap things, expensive things, it doesn't matter, it needs to be treated well. The other thing that I failed to mention is I never bring anything into my house that I would value more than the life of my child, or would make me want to beat them (KIDDING) if something happened to it! Accidents HAVE happened. My son when he was 3, tripped and fell and hit his head on the corner of my mother's hope chest that I had inherited, he split his ear open. SHIT HAPPENS!

I have also kept jars & bowls of candy all over the house since I have had my own home. Everyone that comes over says "Oh my gosh, if I did that my kids would down it all in an hour" no they won't, not if that's the norm.

oh and the comment about the changing table was just ridiculous.

The Townhouselady said...

Eddie & Annon we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I don't think design has to suffer because there are children in residence.

All I am saying is it's more practical to shift a few items around than to be out replacing items you hold dear because of 'whoopsies'.

You're right, of course it's just stuff and in most cases can be replaced but, why should you have to? Why not just have a fabulously designed room with non breakables at "crawl and stumble" height?

Anonymous said...

"I don't think design has to suffer because there are children in residence."

BINGO! That's what I was trying to say. And okay to the agreeing to disagreeing.

Now, about the "cop out" with posting "anon", here's the deal....

High school and the whole "girls/friends" stuff was a LITTLE rough for me, and sometimes I feel like the blogging world is a little like that, and I get FREAKED out! Ridiculous? Yes. But it is what it is. Sometimes I'm brave and I'll stick my name on it and sometimes I'm a little old chicken shit. I'm working on it. :)

oh, and Eddie, will you please get off the freakin' comments and go post about the Framing Piece? I've been refreshing all damn day waiting with baited breath for it!

Jenny,

When I say Arts and Crafts, think The Roycroft Inn. Available for Googling or binging whenever you'd like to take a gander.

And while I sorta dislike orange, I do enjoy turquoise, pink, red, blue, etc. I just don't want them all used at once, together. Especially accented with a cheetah print pillow. Or fussy figurines and candy dishes (no matter how charmingly old lady-ish).

Beautifully crafted furniture and architecture, where the lines and materials speak for themselves, will never be in bad taste. Well, they shouldn't be, anyway.

They're ADULT children, says so right here:

"And now that her children have grown, they're finally where they should have been all along, out and always within arm's reach."

I love it, although the walls make me twitchy.

@ Jenny: "whew! and i thought you were just retarded. now i see it was just bad taste." ...

Holy monkey balls, I think I'm a little bit in love with you!!

Great post and the comments had me cracking up! I love how passionate you people are about this, you make the pro-choice/pro-life debates look like a children’s argument. And if I had kids they would be too respectful/fearful to spill on the Schumacher lined high chair. Hmmmmmmm maybe it's a good thing I don't have children ;)

Just discovered your blog thanks to the Vamp and I love it. Can't wait to see more great posts from you. I feel a little out of it that I'm just now discovering you but so glad now than later.

So agree on the anthropologie catalog comment. If your going to style a window it's got to be "over the top". Eddie Ross nailed it.

Talk soon.

I have to tell you guys, it looks way more awesome in person. You cant tell from the pictures how shallow the window is. It really is beautiful, if a bit much.

The ONLY thing that bothers me about the room (i think) is the panel molding color. Something about it is throwing me off. Perhaps if it were white I would like it better? I really do like the splatter wallpaper and all the other stuff in the room...

lol, i had fun reading all your comments! And I totally agree Eddie Ross killed it! (I just went and voted!). I was really hoping that I'd like Maxwell's room b/c I love apartment therapy, but I find that my taste is slightly different from his (even though I think the blog is brilliant). But, heck yeah. I love that Eddie always has projects that I could attempt to do on a budget (AND that look glam!). It makes me want to hit the thrift store every day!

"My Favorite and my Best" what? Favorite curse words? ( the F one, obviously)The best nasty,trash-mouth,bathroom humor? No wonder you are so enamored of Eddie Ross's decorating taste - it obviously reminds you of home and all the trailer park design you loved as a child. Your lowbrow misuse of the english language and over reliance on foul words to make your point speaks louder to your readers than any photos of garish rooms or windows possibly could.
