they are old. antiques even, probably late 1800's early 1900's. have to ask the MIL this as they came from her. very well made, arts and crafts and SOO not me. anyway.. i am selling them to make way for these:

if you can find vintage tolix that are all tarnished consider yourself lucky...they are what i really want. but i will settle for shiny new ones and tarnish them up with years of use myself..
i know the exposed lightbulbs are all the rage right now but i find them to be too interrogation city. maybe in a reading nook over a tufted armchair but not over a table. although i do like those anthropologie sconces with the bare bulb in that cage thing-y..
for me personally i love how they look against a worn wood table, which is what i have- a big, antique, wonky pedestal table circa 1900.
see? they really do work anywhere. now, i have to try and price my chairs. do i go ebay or a dealer? anyone know anything about selling antiques? they aren't in the best shape (a little wear and tear but not much). the tolix chairs are about 200 a chair. i am pretty sure i can't get 200 a chair for mine but i think 100 at least, don't you? thoughts please.images via from the right bank, cote de texas, marie claire maison, living etc, your mom the curator

Hmmm....do you have an eBay seller's account? I would start there first, do something like "local pickup only" or have the seller arrange for shipping so that you don't have to pay an arm and a leg if you have to ship to say, Ellijay. I wouldn't do Craigslist, because those people are cheap as all get out and it seems like you're trying to make some $ so you can spend some $. Have you tried a local antique shop yet?

You won't regret them...I have some in my dining room and I seriously love them. I also love that I can drag them outside and hose them off before bringing them back in. In the depths of winter, it's nice to have a pillow for the ass-chill. Try selling on e-bay and you could ship those chairs Greyhound for cheap.

LOVE what you are doing, I'd sell em' on ebay and maybe give 10% to those people who will sell your crap on ebay for you so you dont have to do the packaging/ shipping of that many chairs.
These chairs are great -- I bought them at Smith & Hawken years ago...there is a store in my town that carries loads of colors -- go to www.antiquaireonline.com -- they have some in lipstick red that are amazing!
See if you can sell your chairs on consignment at a local antique store. They can help with pricing too.
Speaking as someone with ZERO credentials other than the mindsuck of hours recently spent on ebay trying to find chairs for my own dining room, I would say 100 a piece is probably very fair. Most of the chairs on there that looked like nothing special at all whatsoever were 200 and above...maybe get yours checked out in case you are sitting on some rare chair goldmine that the antique geeks will freak over (too much rhyming but it stays, sorry) you don't need to be giving shiz away for free!
Great choice. The tolix works anywhere with anything. I regret not having snagged some before I left Paris. I used to see tons of those old, tarnished ones you're talking about - okay, that's so not helpful here. If you end up getting new ones, here's my post with sources:

Hey Jenny - you will love these! My sister and I both have these around our tables. I have the red ones and she has the galvanized steel ones. I love them! I was crushing on the vintage green ones in the above picture for a long time! But I never found them - so I got mine from the Sundance Catalog - as Marybeth suggested above - they always send those 25% off coupons and that's what I used! 25% off makes a difference when you buy a multitude of these chairs! I have also heard they often have them at the Sundance outlet in Utah - if you are ever in that neck of the woods!

I would start with craigslist because it's free and you live in a large city. List them for more than your willing to take. That way the hagglers feel like they got a good deal.
Ebay, auction houses, consignment shops, etc.. will eat a chunk of your profit. Not a bad way to unload the chairs, but the process is a bit more tedious (and time is money).

Everybody really 'hearts' those chairs? I thought they looked kinda industrial-goofy when they started appearing in the Sundance catalog. You've found so many photos of them, they seem rather ubiquitous to me. But they do seem to go with that 'bare bulbs and metal chairs in the employee break room down at the plant' motif.

I used to live in Atlanta and sold some furniture through a consignment store in Dunwoody. You get a percentage of the sale, and they set the prices. I got good money for stuff that would have gone for a song on craigslist.

Do you want to be/see yourself sitting on these chairs in 10 years (i.e. 50+)??? Too, in a few years the market will be flooded with the unwanted replicas. Bad investment IMO.
