hot mess

note to homeowners everywhere: there's collecting....and then there's hoarding-

i'm just sayin' perhaps a little editing wouldn't hurt. you know, a rotation of things might be nice.
achoooooo!!!!!!

I sort of like the cozy feeling I get from pic #1! (But then I am a grandma)

What's up with all the wierd statue like things in every room - gives me the creeps!

Yeaaaaah I saw this too and reveled in the horror. They need to invest in some storage bins and like you said, rotate.

There's some cool shit in there but its overshadowed by the sheer NUMBER of things packed together.

some gorgeous things in there. if she wants, i'll come and take a few of them off her hands. but she'll probably need ten more people to offer that service too.
The dog bowls.... ewwww!

Maybe some serious storage solutions?

Step away from the TJ Maxx! Step away!

I really like the round bookcase in the first picture, but then it's spoiled by the folding screen behind it with faux bookshelf motif. And I'm with Simply Mel on the creepy statuettes. Especially the angel statuettes jammed onto the tiny shelves next to the other creepy statuettes.

I kind of like the dog bowls for some reason. Maybe because it's sort of original. And I'd love to have that secretary too.

Having a yard sale would do wonders for that place.

yeah. wow. i need a moment.

i would like to see some contrast, some focus, and some resting spots in those rooms!

i am a packrat, which is why i dont submit photos of my house to decorating blogs. there is no sense in trying to be both.

all my other thoughts i'll just keep to myself.

One person's junk is another person's treasured collectible ha ha.
This place is a hot mess for sure, but it has the look of crazy love too.

make no mistake she has amazing shit in there i just wish she wouldn't display it all at once. it borders on insanity as opposed to decor. i hate that there is a stigma that getting older=crazy. i COMPLETELY disagree. i think it is healthier to get rid of shit. plus i tell my own mother this all the time...you have got to get rid of stuff otherwise your children are going to have to get rid of it for you when it's your time and it would be WAAAAY harder for them to do that than you!! i don't want to be the one throwing away all 45 cans of hairspray under the bathroom cabinet. either stop hoarding shit or stop buying shit or i, your daughter will be in a crumpled heap of pain and sadness on the floor when i have to trash all of your stuff. just sayin'!

I received an e-mail this morning that you had 'lifted' the photos of my home and collections from the Cote de Texas blog. Does this mean that I shouldn't include you in the will? Just kidding!

Addressing Fiona's nana - thank you for the comment. Jenny, love your spirit! Wishing you only the best as a "blogstress".

I love it! It makes me want to explore and snuggle in for cocoa and a good book and have a gathering of intellectuals with pipes and wine all at the same time. It's kinda like every eclectic & eccentric movie set I've ever loved come to life! Then again I might be a tad biased as it sorta kinda reminds me of my own home.

When the time comes, you're going to be "in a crumpled heap of pain and sadness on the floor" anyway. Even if there's nothing left to get rid of.

And your pain has to be weighed by all the years of happiness that all this stuff brought to the person who cherished it.

It's "healthy" if she loved what she lived with.

I adore her house but then again, mine looks pretty much the same. what's wrong with surrounding yourself with things you love? much better than being surrounded by emptiness, esp. of heart!
