i feel like i'm taking crazy pills!!!

lonny, let's break it down....

shopping guide..i so rarely enjoy these. i would rather they do a shopping guide after each home spread telling me where they got their shit and perhaps a cheaper option if applicable. it seems like a better marketing strategy too.

the hotels were cute.

fashion spread- fast forward

all three store interiors = bullshit
the stripy bathroom was cute though, but it was a palpable room for me to copy. did we need to see inside 3 stores? i would much rather see kate spade's house filled with things i cannot afford than her store filled with things i cannot afford.

lisa fine's place with all it's mixed patterns was cute but it felt like major deja vu. in fact just about everything felt major deja vu-ish. it was slightly disappointing to see shit in here i had seen on blogs already, yes you green campaign cabinet.

and what's with the antler party? and where is the goddamn christmas mantel i asked for?

over all its a thumb sideways from me. but i don't want to just be an asshole who diarrhea's all over some one's efforts. i just want something better than a watered down version of domino.
so no more fashion spreads...we don't care. gift guides are dumb. hotels are cute but makeovers are better. heather clawson is a geek. jamie meares is cool. be like keith johnson from anthropologie and get your butts on a plane and go FIND that awesome house we have yet to see. and then sell it to us for lot's less.
anyone else care to add?

Hey, I just left ten of these rants on decorno's blog.
Its not that I want this magazine to go away, just that it was better last time and I know these people can do better. By the time I was looking at the SECOND pair of antlers on a black wall, I was confused. Why so much repetition in one mag? Hmmm....

I felt the same way. Amen, sister!

man, I skimmed this today. Looks like I didn't miss much? :( bummed. hey, you can't be brilliant on every try, right?

I truly believe there are a finite amount of ideas in teh universe and we've just run out of all of them.

i did enjoy the irony of an eco-friendly fashion spread in the same magazine with a spread devoted to the use of dead animals as decorative accents.

we're on the same page. lonny sucked. they ran out of steam with issue 2. every douche blogger thinks it's so easy 2 do a mag. well it aint't that easy.

I too have just had my say at Decorno. Sadly, Lonny, managed to be both uninteresting and dated. Blogs, in all their diversity, do it better. Scary truth for many online publications.

That's why I love ya Jenny girl, you speak where I hesitate to go. You summed it up exquisitely, 'a water-downed version of Domino'. I was blown away to see the "antler" display. The same bloggers that were praising & oohhhing & awwwing Lonny (aka Lamey) months ago were dragging antlers thru the mud. I want to see Lonnie succeed, but give me my damn Domino back. Humungous fan of seeing a gorgeous room & then tips to recreating it on the avg. Joe's household income. I want something I can hold on to as well, I already have computer neck. Great weekend to you three x

I want my Domino back, too! Though they did start sending me a baby magazine once they folded. I have no babies. Anyway -- I just called/ wrote to say I love you. You crack me up.

they sent me that same baby magazine and it is a pretentious ridiculous rag and I have babies. I am also way over the antler craze. next please.

To be honest, I was relieved to see the double-ended dildo boys (Jaithan and Eddie) only had a minor mention during this issue.

Just found you via High-Heeled Foot in the Door...And absolutely LOVE your writing! Call it how you see it! I was super excited for the new issue, but I have to say I only really liked two things in the entire issue: the striped bathroom was awesome and the gift guide (I thought it had more decent ideas than anything I've tried to put together). Maybe next time?

Oh, I remember that episode of South Park!!! One of the boys was cloned and they visited an island run by a mad scientist or some shit. Very funny!

oh, agree on heather

You guys are a tough crew to please! I agree that the first issue of Lonny was better, but the degree of your vitriol seems disproportionate. It's their SECOND issue, and you've basically trashed them and their concept. Ever heard of giving people time to find their way?

it's tough love laura...tough love. i want nothing more than a magazine (online or not) to bring me once a month the same awesomeness that domino provided. so far i have had to wait too long for the second issue and it wasn't really worth the wait quite frankly. i've got nuthin but love for michelle and patrick.
we are trying to offer some criticism for them to make it better, that's all. my vitriol is honest. that's why it's my blog. appreciate your comment though.

is it just me or is Gianacakos apartment a male remake of michelle adams apartment, was that intentional? maybe?

You've finally said the words I have been thinking about Heather Clawson. Don't you think we would like her a little better if she'd drop some F-bombs once in a while or at least write something cleaver?

OK guys, I dont like hab chic either but what is with the EXTREME hatred of HC?
why dont u all just ignore her if you hate her that much?

I agree, I like Lonny and I want it to succeed, but yeah, weak. My main complaint is that when the issue dropped (yeah, I said dropped) immediately the same 4 pictures from the issue were posted on tons of blogs. I mean I felt like I had already read the magazine just by opening my Google reader. That annoys me the most. Just found your blog through my girl Townhouselady. Loves it!

a disappointment for sure & i know they can do better w/all the talented people involved!
i really just want that feeling back that i had w/domino: couldn't tag the pages to go back to for inspiration fast enough! that was the greatest feeling...

Underwhelmed.

I literally scrolled through Lonny is less that 5 minutes. All that I took from it was some plaid boots from RL that I wanted but could not buy because they were really for gentleman. And that effing striped bathroom that I am now ashamed of liking because EVERYONE has posted it (I like to feel like a unique snowflake) No matter what I am not gonna freak about Lonny because I WANT TO HOLD IT IN MY WEE LITTLE PAWS. That said, I appreciate the effort and hope they can get me off next time.

Sharon Brown said...

Anom,
EXTREME HATRED? Now that is a bit extreme. No hatred here. I'm not that extreme.

agreed!

Yes, I think the best part of the issue was that striped bathroom. Great minds think alike, although I too like to be a little like a unique snowflake sometimes.

I do agree with you - not crazy about the fashion spread, all of the store interiors (were they not able to find enough houses or apartments that were willing to be photographed?), and the idea to turn the shopping guide into something that follows the stories showing how you can get the same look. For less. That would be great - those shopping guides are always so expensive.

Hoping for a more interesting issue in the new year! I don't want to see them go - I do think it's a cool format and hope it will succeed!

Maybe Jenna Lyons needs another job and can just create cool rooms for Lonny - I would be willing to donate my house to that effort.
