cheap target treasures and ghetto cookies...

my skin has gone from perfect glowy face to dried up parchment face. i mean the winter wreaks havoc on my skin. it terrible. it isn't stopping at my face either. i now am the proud owner of cracked heels. yeah. fucking horrible. like those fat ladies you see at six flags who never wash their feet and then wear flip flops. like that. except my feet are clean and i exfoliate them too. i exfoliate my face as well, and steam it and wear hydrating masks and moisturize and all that shit..nothing is working. and on TOP of all that, i have a weird zit-like rash all over my upper body. face, neck, chest and back. as i type this i am wondering if it's shingles. it's that bad. it looks like a lot of zits, like acne..except i'm 40, not 14. but it itches, not terribly just mildly. i think it is a food allergy actually, but i have no idea what. anyway i am going to the doctor tomorrow so i will let you know.

this cleansing milk from target is really cheap and it actually smells like real geranium, not fake geranium and it was 8 dollars. its great at cleaning your face without making it feel like you stripped it of its natural oils.

this bath oil (which i use in the shower after i wash and before i dry off) smells really good too. it's subtle and not perfume-y at all. it's also more lotion-y than oily once it melts into your skin.

they did not have this at the time i purchased the others, sold out. but when i read reviews it got a shit ton of awesome ones, so i am going back for it later. also the bottles are glass and heavy. perfect for keeping around as vases.

and also i got these cookies to make my vegan peanut butter cups and had them left over. they taste nothing like graham crackers though. they actually taste like shortbread, more specifically pecan sandies. i used to LOVE pecan sandies but i can't find any gluten free pecan sandie alternative so i eat one of these and then throw a few pecans in my mouth. pecan sandie. ghetto version.

I just got over the shingles...had them on my face...it fucking sucked! I hope you don't have them....they realllllllllly reallllly itch and the pain is hell. It sounds like it's not the shingles though...I also so little pimply rashy things all over my arms and chest...maybe it has to do with dry skin???
If you really want a great moisturizer for your face...try Dr. Haushcka. It's homeopathic and the best I've ever found. You can find it at WHole Foods or Sephora. It's pricey...but well worth it. GOod luck at the Doc's office. Are you going to shave a finger into your beav for the regular doc too? LOL

It might be eczema, I have it and one time on my face it looked like I had a goatee of red pimples, it was horrible, I think you need to go see a dermatologist....you can get a cream for it.....

I about died laughing when I read "like those fat ladies you see at six flags who never wash their feet."

duel- i USE dr. haushcka!!! have for years (when i can afford it) but i like to try new things so i can never stick with one thing.
but i always seem to go back to the rose day cream in winter.

anon- eczema you say? i guess it could be. i will image google and compare.

Jenny,
Do you have a gluten allergy? I cannot remember. I do and I have to be really careful about the type of face and body creams I use... so many of them have wheat emulsifiers. Who knew. I didn't.
My daughter had eczema really badly when she was younger. I took her to a homeopath and it was cleared up permanently in about a week. No joke. She is now 24 and has had no problems any more.

Good thing you are going to a doc. Get to the bottom of it.

As for your rough heels? Bath them in warm water and then rub Vaseline all over then and put socks on. Not a glamorous suggestion. But it works.

Doubt it's shingles - you're too young, and shingles don't just itch mildly - they are PAINFUL. You just have cooties ;)

I've always heard an old wives' tale of using Vick's Mentholatum on dry heels, too. I haven't tried it (need to) but dig the smell, so it would be worth it regardless.

Good luck at the Quack Shack.

have you looked into rosacea--i only say this because it can appear like acne. i have it, and the less i do or put on my face, the better. and i have to keep my sheets and pillowcases changed.

dr haushcka killed my skin, as does most natural/essential oil stuff. jason natural products works okay for a while. maybe your skin needs a break and some time with just basic cleanser+moisturizer?

skin issues SUCK

Love Boots products. All of my family other than the immediate live in England and we used to have my aunt send us our favorites. I'm so glad they're finally available here.

Sorry posted too quick...

My sister suffered from food allergy related eczema and it looked just as you described. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

all those smelly products from target might be wreacking havoc! heels=kerasol. face=cetaphil cream. have you tried lachydrin for your body? it's over the counter but usually behind the pharmacy area. super intense solution for dryness. can use on your feet too! done and done.

I just had esophageal shingles - yeah bloody nice they were! It was a living hell. Anyway, laughed at the cracked heel thing - that is disgusting. I will be blogging next week about the things us ladies go through to look good!

i know it's not the face stuff or body stuff..i just started using it 2 days ago and this skin stuff has been going on for almost 2 weeks. it's not eczema, although it could be food allergy related eczema THL...
i am pretty sure it's food related but i am having allergy elimination technique done tomorrow so i will have the full rundown when i return.
i have...a..gulp..horrible...gulp..feeeeeling.....it's...(shudders)....wine.

As a kind of "thanks!" for your very very enjoyable blog I'll offer up these two skin ideas that work for me (and I live in the DESERT):
1. After any and every bath or shower, while skin is still damp, apply Vaseline to heels. Easy, cheap, effective.
2. For face and body, use Paula's Choice skin recovery hydrating treatment mask. Instructions say to apply, then rinse off, but I just use it as a lotion. Again, easy, cheap, effective.

Cheers.

Too funny about the Six Flag heels....so gross, lol! We have Busch Garden heels here...I am running out to pick up the Boots cleansing milk as I LOVE geranium, although I am not sure loads of people do. People say it smell like weeds...now I know why I like it;)

Have a beautiful weekend!

my skin is a wreck from the cold weather here then the dry (but warmer!) weather in Arizona. Got a facial and the gal said to try misting water on your face to help hydrate. For what it's worth...

Try Amlactin lotion. It is like a miracle.

Aquaphor. At the drugstore; half petroleum with some mineral oil in it. Cheap and super effective.

Also what's awesome on feet? The As-Seen-On-TV Heeltastic that is on sale everywhere now. And it smells like a spa day.

My friend went to a derm for some skin issues. The dermatologist blamed most of her condition on organic/natural products with essential oils. She got off of them even though she loves them (particularly Aveda shampoos and stuff) and made a remarkably quick recovery.

I am not a dermatologist, but it does sound like Rosacea.

If it's not, I can tell you that my skin improved greatly when I followed the advice in this NYT article. I first saw it linked on Decorno, I think.

http://bit.ly/7wHDqo

I restricted all of my products down to the barest minimum. My skin seems happier for it. Cetaphil isn't very glamorous, but it's the best cleanser I've ever used.

Jean said...

Agree, the natural stuff is terribly rough on the skin.

Cetaphil, the liquid kind is what my dermatologist told me to use. Don't rub your face when you dry it, but you probably know that.

I couldn't live through winter without Eucerin in the tub form (thick white goo, cheap and easy to get in drugstores). Massage it into your feet, cover with socks for a couple of hours. It helps for a while, at least. But even if you're not an old lady who doesn't clean her feet, once the heels start to crack it's all downhill. Sorry! They just never get back to baby heels again.

MFAMB said...

thanks guys for all the advice. but the rash isn't on my face, not really. it's around my ears and jaw and then down on to my neck.
also on chest and back.

I just read your mecury report. I was going to say shampoo allergy. I hope all goes well with the filling replacement...making frowny face over here...that sounds expensive and not fun at all.

I mean, what the hell?!? I had JUST conquered my sudden and vicious adult onset acne to realize that winter in a cold climate makes my hands, legs, face, and butt drier than the desert. I am calling bullshit. This is not fair. Acne OR dry lizard skin. Not both. It's too much. At 24 or any age, really. Hope your skin feels better by now.

I just gave in and bought a clarisonic face scrubber.
a m a z i n g.
I get rashes all the fucking time, so I feel you. The last turned my eyelids red and they had a texture similar to elephant skin (not that i know for sure, but I'm pretty sure that's what they feel like).

FYI- I made the peanut butter cups with rice milk and it totally bombed. The milk kept separating from the chocolate so I had to keep stirring it. Then it started to turn chunky-ish. Then after it cooled the milk separated from the chocolate again and looked like there was cum on top of them. Going for round two with real milk. Oh well for the vegan...

for the cracked heels, weleda's foot balm is amazing. it's like getting a pedicure, it works so well.
