in the latest issue of house beautiful (another real sleeper by the way- where we are to indulge stephen drucker's gayballs idea of having an all one color issue. sigh. it was so GD insipid.) anygay..we also saw that kathryn m. ireland, textile designer and house decorator, is charging us 370 dollars for her ikea harry chair slipcovers. 370 dollars. for an ikea chair. maybe its me but i'm thinkin' that if your buying a fucking ikea chair you are not affordin' a 370 dollar slipcover.
does anyone else think this is R'TARD?
well jcaroline home also makes a harry chair slipcover for 40 dollars. YES FORTY!!!! that makes way more sense, does it not? and there are more fabrics besides this not-so-pretty paisley. including zebra for all you zebraheads out there.

that ireland one is just plain fugly. i don't care what it costs.
yikes...talk about not matching price points!!!
Ireland's version looks like 1991 threw up on that poor unsuspecting chair. I don't usually buy vomitous things for over $17.
I can't stop laughing.
There's got to be something they're not telling us about the Ireland chair. Maybe it gives genital herpes to unwanted house guests? I'd pay $370 for that.
hell naw>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
There's a great site that has IKEA slipcovers for WAY cheaper...
http://www.bemz.com/
OMG: you had me at fartknockin. That word is so underappreciated.
That is one ugly chair. Ack.
EEEWHH, Laurdi! I posted these covers recently b/c I was curious abt the disconnect in price. Oh I also mentioned that I could see the covers all mismatched around a beach house dining table. 'They're fun like jams or madras shorts', I told myself. Turns out I should have kept that little thought to myself, I abt got blasted off my blog. Just confessin.
Check out Bemz.com too for sweet ikea covers, hopefully that tip will save my soul, this time at least.
omg, fartknockin' is my new favorite word. I can't wait to find an excuse to use it. That chair is hideously ugly. Who wants that awfulness? SRSLY....I am sad because I haven't read my issue of HB yet, but I usually agree with you when you say it's a sucky one, so not looking forward to it. OTOH, they seem to follow an awful issue with a really great one, so next month there will be goodness, I hope!
opps. abbie already told you-i'm screwed.
Wowsa. Fugly aaaand expensive. Nice.
And Fartknockers...excellent.
that first one was pretty horrible! and clarie is right, bemz.com is the biz. i think i remember eddie ross talking about them...
lurid, both of them, like a couple of piles of catsick.
f u ireland! i am actually considering purchasing those chairs and i can tell you right now i will probably make my own slipcovers with 2.99 per yard sale Ikea fabric.
$370 is an ugly price and makes no sense.
IKEA should= cheap.
$370 Not. Cheap.
UGLY and EXPENSIVE: the worst possible combination! They look better with out the slipcovers!
hahahah, i saw this too! who the heck would even what that weirdo-dated fabric slip cover for $370 anyhow? GROSS:)
OK... So I just read through Elle Decor and House Beautiful... Elle Decor definitely wins this month.
I would have liked the idea of doing one color through the whole issue (maybe, in theory it sounds cool) if the color they chose wasnt BLUE. We see this ALL the time. I like blue, but its not interesting enough for whole entire issue.
Next,
I LOVED the article and pictures of the home of Ellen Rakieten, who runs the show over at Oprah. I thought it was very cool.
I thought you meant hairy. I want a slipcover out of mongolian lamb or I just saw one out of flokati.
Now I'm just disappointed.
I agree about the sleeper issue of HB and DID NOT BUY IT. For the first time in 100 years.
C'mon, really $370 for that! Blech.
you know, some people grew up in the 80s and were assaulted by one of the worst decor trends in history - Southwestern. But we moved on! We embraced shabby chic for a time, and now we've moved into an eclectic, modern + adorned look... Ms. Ireland has apparently become mired in the Southwest. Pukorama.
I thought your very thoughts when I browsed this months issue of HB about the first chair. It looks like it is wearing a diaper!
uuuuugh, i am in complete agreement. i'm a relatively new house beautiful subscriber & i think there's much left to be desired. i kept seeing all of these great images on the interwebs so finally took the plunge -- but shit, it almost feels like a movie preview that tricks you into thinking the film will be good by splicing together all of the decent parts.
I did see it and I did feel the same, although I was unable to express it as eloquently as you did. Thank you kindly for the laugh.
A question for the ages. Is it better (or worse) to be a cock knocker or a fartknocker?
I concur with your learned readers.
Fugly, fartknockin, and friggin too expensive.
Sounds like blow jobs and crack pipes are going on over at Ikea.
xo xo
Seriously? It's like Charlotte Russe charging 70 bucks for a designer collab sweatshirt. RIDICULOUS!
Hey, thanks for turning me on to jcaroline! They have some amazing stuff and very reasonable prices!
Thanks for the props! (Sorry you don't like that paisley, but we do have several other fabrics. But why don't you like that paisley? It's got great jewel tones in it on a linen background-- but I digress.)
I've now added you to my Google Reader because anyone that cusses while they write about decor is the bomb.
And, yes, Bemz is also a good Ikea cover source. They do WAY more covers than we do-- we stick to some easy basics. But I'm now going to work on my patchwork $370 chair cover.
Uuuuuuuuuuugly and awfuuuuuuuuul. Period.
I could not believe the price tag for an Ikea chair cover, crazy!
I fell in love with some of her fabric, my mom said she could order it at cost, yippee!! Decorator's price? $175 a yard!!! It retailed for $350 a yard!!! NO, I didn't order it...I am not that crazy!!
i am only saying this because i didnt want to say the obvious (i.e., that its fugly): maybe the slipcover fabric was cut from an ancient, hand-embroidered, hand-dyed ceremonial robe from some soon-to-be-trendized culture...has peruvian been done yet?
i cant account for the pea green background... the color story sucks the most out of all its faults.
the paisley print just doesnt seem balanced. painting the legs with a lacquer would help. or taming the fabric with some dun colors.
Bahaahahaa! I was thinking the same thing. If you shop at IKEA, you're not going to spring for overpriced fabric.
